what happens to the critical value for a chi-square test if the size of the sample is increased? This is a topic that many people are looking for. amritsang.org is a channel providing useful information about learning, life, digital marketing and online courses …. it will help you have an overview and solid multi-faceted knowledge . Today, amritsang.org would like to introduce to you Chi Square Test : Determining the Critical Value. Following along are instructions in the video below:
This test in this air presentation. Were just quickly going to look at how how to protect the critical value for a chi square test for independence so just a quick remark. The chi squared is written like this this greek.
Letter chi. And we square. It and we might put in the subscript critical value just to sort of say its critical value.
2. As opposed to the test statistic. So essentially what we have to do is well go to a question that i had looked at earlier on ok.
So this is a question. I didnt in a different presentation of this course put into shot here so we have the observed and expected there. But essentially what were looking at here is the number of rows and number of columns.
So in ill just sort of use the observed here essentially we have three rows okay and we dont include the bottom that the role for the totals. So thats not included and so were gonna say r is equal to three okay r is our role number rows okay and lets go back. There at the number of columns.
We have is we have for this we have two columns for the levels of the categorical variable air that the out possible values. A and b. So theres two columns.
There so im gonna say c is equal to two now and lets say for arguments. Sake were dealing with a significance level of not 095. So our alpha is not a point.
No thats an important part for stuff. So what were going to do here is go to our tables. And this is just a rough sketch it on essentially what were going to do is go to our.
Tables and were going to go to the column. 005. Because thats our significance level.
So thats the column okay so so far so good the next thing. Were going to do is go and find our degrees of freedoms. The rows are essentially tell us the degrees of freedom.
And for this example. The degrees of freedom. Is or minus.
1. Times. C.
Minus. 1. So.
R. Minus 1. Times.

C. Minus. 1.
Okay. And. In this case.
Thats 3 minus. 1. Times.
2 minus. 1. Okay.
3. Minus. 1.
Is 2 2. Minus. 1.
Is 1. So what we have there essentially is i dont have any room here so essentially i just write that the degrees of freedom is degrees of freedom. Here is 2.
Okay. So the degrees of freedom is 2 down here that set the breeze of freedom. The row minus 1.
Times. The column minus 1. Okay.
So what well do here is go to our tables. Again and essentially. Were gonna use this role.
Here ok. So its this column here and this. Role.
Here so the critical value essentially for this particular example is. 599 and some box might be given to 3 decimal places as 599. 1.
Not particularly important. But anyway. That is how you find the the critical value for a chi square test.
So its our well ill just do this here in green just to remind us our minus. One thats so good our minus. One there we go times c minus.
One is the role and alpha up here is the column okay so thats it .
