what is the purpose of the hatchery and conditioning center This is a topic that many people are looking for. amritsang.org is a channel providing useful information about learning, life, digital marketing and online courses …. it will help you have an overview and solid multi-faceted knowledge . Today, amritsang.org would like to introduce to you Preview the future of captive breeding At Biota Aquariums. Following along are instructions in the video below:
Wisc on on rebuilders. Jake adams. Here and i happen to be on a road road trip in south florida and ive just taken a small detour here in lauderdale to visit biota aquariums.
So i kicked off this year. With a trip to palau and visited biota palau. Where a lot of fish are captive bred by tom bowling.
And the crew also a lot of real cool corals and biota quorums. Here is the place where the all the fish and corals and animals at livestock come to before theyve distributed across the united states. So lets go inside and take a look sup kevin son.
Man thanks for having me. Im les. This is also jake hang on so were here at biota aquariums.
Nev. Re just to give them a little bit of intro and yeah man you got a really cool facility. Im actually really glad id make the make the time to come in and visit you my friend and also this is this new facility.
You got so tell us about what this place is all about so basically we bring in the animals that tom bowling. Grows and pull out put bio to marine life center and we condition it here so we bring them in all the invertebrates. Theyre isolated and then basically let them you know just get you start officially and then sell them wholesale.
The pet stores and three to four weakness. This is a 12 by 6 foot. Draw were running about 15 inches of water.
Its going to be something gallons simple smg five skimmer over there see four radians. We are running on very high by ninety percent intensity. We have a variety of different animals.
The popular green finger of others from the lab. Theres a penrose xenia the true nepia. Weve got a variety of and right now all the protein skimmers are officers.
So we could get a good view of everything. But obviously normally they are running and theres a little bit louder in the holding system. So you dont really have like a dedicated filter for these tanks right.
Its just circulation protein skimming. We do have the luxury of gulf stream water nearby uh as well see water thats the secret oh but we dont take that much we have to compensate more for evaporation in an air conditioned warehouse then cilenti control tanks maybe 20 every ten days. Frankly this is our fish holding system really simple again poly tanks indestructible lots of foam pouring strange.
Im a big proponent of flow and self cleaning tanks around keep some extra clean thats forever heres the infamous lodged ambience pretty exciting love these bags also known as the bore boniest. Yeah. Cant kill them actually wow super strong fish.
Great fish eats. Everything pellets flake. You name.
It this was in conjunction with the hatchery and the college will allow with them kind of surprises. Me as i go is love rabbit fish for like home aquariums. But theyre way more popular to eat than to keep an acquaintance right yeah ironically the hatchery that tom runs used to be a rabbit fish hatchery for restoration or restocking so super powerful.
But yeah we know as good grazers here.
Some watchmen sync disco bees to clowns for the biota kits. Mixed in those are not from pull out. Oh man.
This is just one of the coolest stories that i have ever been a part of just these mandarin gobies and from the video break cant tell for scale. But theyre probably just an inch and a quarter. You know probably just pushing like four centimeters everybody loved watching your vanity flake really the only fish.
We actually grow out here most of the fish we get in we just conditioned feed and send on these guys we actually weaned off of live food. So we had our taming here. But we will not sell them until and what do you try to feed them they really like frozen cyclops.
Okay yeah. We use the ocean nutrition and the b200. They really like that next week.
We use the cow on us when they get a little bigger. But basically the cyclops probably more excited to see these guys yeah so theres a tank full of baby yellow tangs. I actually havent seen them at this size.
Yet where theyre still just like a little bit translucent yeah. Super duper cool. It is cool.
Were experimenting with actually getting them in earlier and settling them here so that they ship better and they need a lot of surface area to settle. So you need a big tank. So i know youre a wholesaler.
But what do you estimate that these are gonna retail for these are gonna retail for sixty to seventy dollars okay very good yeah captive bred and theyve improved dramatically on the shape and color over the first baptist captive bred coral beauty angelfish and pork tail bunnies of course people have seen before. But yeah definitely if you havent seen. The video already those i did a feature on how captive bred angelfish are made and its one of my better.
And more challenging videos and really really fascinating the whole process. Yeah. Im amazed these guys the color.
They come and just perfect. Theyre just like a yeah. Theyre the perfect color for a coral.
You know funkiness going on not too blue not too dark. But show us how you keep all these systems filtered. Was just fish and no real decorations or anything no i brought yeah.
Its a super basic we got the poly james the head. Theyre just 300 mm in rubber pants off pouring strangers. Theres a dedicated flow returned with a 1200 watt.
A week. Which is really important then were using the aquarium engineering skimmers with bio towers. So its really a simple design.
We really have much mechanical filtration with the taper dude. These tanks youve been here for a year and a half. But these tanks look like they were set up last week everythings just super clean and what i love about these skimmers is theyre actually air driven protein skimmers and i wrote the story about the awesomeness of air driven.
Skimmers and i dont think ive seen commercial air driven air powered protein skimmer in a really long time so it actually kind of threw me off guard.
With my first author without injected air. And so youve been talking about an easy way to get people into the hobby. It really truly all in one package.
So tell the viewers you know about your tank. And what you know with whats really your mission here yeah. The mission is to create new hobbyists marine hobbyists that is that stay in the in the trade in ironically when i met tom bowling in 99.
He was selling a complete seahorse package in australia a complete kit and i was a tory at the time. And it was always the goal to have an all aquacultured aquarium. Well here we are fast forward.
17 18. Years later and we finally brought this tank to market. And thats it so take it from the top tell us what this tank is and how this gets people started in the hobby.
If so this tank is a 13 gallon. Flooville aquarium and you order it it gets shipped to your house you fill it up with seawater. Following some simple.
Exceptions. And some youtube video support and then a live rock gets shipped to your house that is actually biologically active shipped wet moist three day ground and then the fish and corals are overnighted once youve received your rock. So basically the whole aquarium including the interior components.
And the live animals are coming from us direct to you therefore coming from our controlled environment to this tanks with no possibility disease quarantined. No cuts. No parasites very limited potential or even algae right exactly.
So yeah and the hobby as you know the trade. Its just no matter how well you build your systems. When youre bringing in fish from multiple different sources and supply chains.
Youre gonna have some issues. So the idea behind this being these animals have been here theyre conditioned. Theyre ready theyre disease free and then they go straight to your home.
So it just really limits a lot of the variables. That a lot of new hobbyists have no control over theres only one size. Its it right now.
Theres 18 and a half gallons and a half gallons and how much is the one ds complete setups. Theres 659 shipped to your house. 50 medicine comes with the light that comes with a pump that comes with all kinds of animals or like a basic stock list of animals very cool.
So yeah. Lets prairie make a pretty good holiday gift. If any of your reefers are looking to get some of your family.
Members or loved ones you know a really nice entry level tank so cool thanks a lot kevin thank you now its great. The people that have never had saltwater aquariums are keeping these tanks for six months to 12 months. And saying.
What else can i buy what else can i you know theyre ready to stay in the hobby or go to the local fish store and buy a 20 or 30 gallon aquarium. So that thats really our goal that means. Weve succeeded so were pretty excited awesome well more power to you and thanks for the tour.
Buddy. I will catch you and another show here in the future but best of luck with bio at aquariums and i will do my best to share the captive bred love out on the interwebs. I know you will .
