what type of polygon is shown? convex heptagon concave heptagon concave octagon convex octagon This is a topic that many people are looking for. amritsang.org is a channel providing useful information about learning, life, digital marketing and online courses …. it will help you have an overview and solid multi-faceted knowledge . Today, amritsang.org would like to introduce to you Whats a Polygon (Regular vs. Irregular and Convex vs. Concave Polygons) – Nerdstudy. Following along are instructions in the video below:
Are polygons and what makes them regular or irregular. Also what makes them convex or or concave in this video. Lets dive into an introduction of the 2d world polygons so lets begin with an example of a polygon here.
Now what are the characteristics of a polygon well a polygon is a two dimensional shape that is made up with straight line segments. Which means absolutely no curves the shape for a polygon is always a closed shape so while this shape over here is two dimensional thats made up of straight lines since it does not close up. It is not considered a polygon also while this unique looking shape here is two dimensional that is complete.

It is not considered a polygon either since its edges are not straight lines. But rather curved awesome so if we were asked if a real life basketball was a polygon or not what would our answer be well the answer to that would be no and why well the reason relates to the fact that a basketball is a three dimensional object rather than a two dimensional shape. Which is one of the criteria for a shape being a polygon great so moving on with more information about polygons.
We can actually categorize them into two categories. Which are regular versus irregular polygons. So the following are examples of regular polygons.

Now if we look carefully at these polygons will notice that each of these sides are equal to every other side in the polygon and as a result of that weve got equal angles on the insides as well this is what makes a polygon over polygons as for an irregular polygon. If we take a look at this funny looking shape here we would still call it a polygon since it is made up of line segments and its a closed object. But we wouldnt be able to call it a regular polygon since the line lengths arent all the same and obviously not all the angles.
Are the same as well all right and now to finish off this video. Lets talk about convex polygons and concave polygons. An example of a convex polygon might look like this now notice how all of the angles on the inside are less than 180 degrees.

So the differentiating characteristics of a convex polygon is that each angle. Within the polygon must be less than or equal to 180 degrees. The concave polygon on the other hand has at least one angle on the inside of the shape that is greater than 180 degrees.
This shape for example. Which also happens to be irregular is a concave polygon. Its irregular because clearly not all side lengths are equal to each other and its concave since not all angles on the inside under 180 degrees.
For example this angle right here is clearly greater than 180 degrees. Awesome so thats the end of this lesson on polygons and the different types of polygons. We can come across well we hope you guys practice identifying what weve learned in this lesson to get a better idea of the characteristics of different polygons and until next time have a good one you .
